VICE PRESIDENT, ISHWM

Indian Society of Hospital Waste Management is serving the Nation for the last 24 years through teaching, training, research and consultancy. Health Care waste management is one of the essential components of infection control and sharp injury prevention in health care institution. Importance of Health Care Waste Management in protection of human health and environment cannot be ignored. Health Care Waste Management in South East Asian countries is significantly inadequate. Proper management of health care waste during COVID 2019 played a significant role in controlling the COVID epidemic. Bio-medical waste management practices especially segregated collection, transportation; storage, treatment and final disposal have significantly improved during the last two decades. Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 and its implementation through training programmes to health care staff have improved thereby regulating the menace of health care waste. A multi-centric study on proper healthcare waste management and its effect on hospital stay have shown the importance of infection control in hospitals. The recent onsite autoclaving of infectious waste and phasing out of incinerators have a key role in protection of human health and environment. The importance of skill trainings, conferences and workshops cannot be undermined. These are the platforms where recent trends in health care waste management practices and newer technologies are shared. "ISHWMCOM-2024" is such an Event to discuss the recent trends and prevention practices in Health Care Waste Management.
I congratulate the organisers for a great success of the conference.

Thank You,
